Portrait of Dr Curry

Dr. John H. Curry, Idaho State University Professor and Chair of the Department of Organizational Learning and Performance, has been named Editor-in-Chief of TechTrends, one of the top research journals in the field of educational technology and instructional design.

TechTrends is sponsored by the Association for Educational Communications and Technologies (AECT) international organization that connects professionals and professional workplaces across a variety of industries and is aimed at providing teaching and learning through technologies. Published six times yearly, TechTrends focuses on fostering AECT’s mission through distributing current, relevant, and innovative information to its members and others. The journal “publishes various types of manuscripts including reports of innovative practices, critical reviews of relevant literature, and summaries of research translated into practical application.” Generally the manuscripts “address topics such as management of media and programs, application of educational technology principles and techniques to instructional programs, and corporate and military training.”

As Editor-in-Chief of TechTrends, Curry will be solely responsible for all content, articles, columns, or otherwise, in the journal. He will be responsible for the review process for all articles and also be responsible to ensure that the content reflects the mission of the journal and AECT as an organization.

Curry has been a member of the Editorial Board of TechTrends for the last decade, and throughout his career, he has made a significant impact and held a variety of AECT positions and won several awards: including four AECT Presidential Awards. In 2020, the AECT Division of Emerging Learning Technologies created the DELT John Curry Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his lifetime of service to the division. In 2023, Curry was honored with the AECT Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor given by AECT, in recognition of not only his sustained service to the organization but for having made a significant impact in the field of instructional design and technology. Each year Curry also takes a group of students to the annual AECT international conference to network with other professionals, present their research, and increase their knowledge of technologies and practices within their field.
