I Wish Stress Was Tax Deductible

Hi everyone, I am excited to start my first year as a mentor at Idaho State University! I may be in school for ‘numbers’, but I love music and have been a percussion coach at Century High School for the past 3 years. It’s a phenomenal experience, and my students have won multiple music and percussion awards for their marching band! The chances are pretty high that you’ll see (or hear) me tapping and drumming during class. Aside from music, I enjoy playing video games with my friends and love beating my fellow mentor Jaden Palmer at Super Mario Bros Wii. When I first started at ISU, I thought I knew what I wanted to pursue, but I had many, many interests and changed my major at least 3 times before deciding on Accounting. I was going to be an engineer, and then an economist, and then a teacher, and now a CPA. I had the opportunity to learn more about myself with each transition and am grateful for the path I took and the connections I have made because of it. I love connecting other students with opportunities to be involved and find their place at ISU because I remember what it was like to feel so lost, too.

I’m truly thankful for my time at ISU and for the faculty that have helped me find my passions in the professional world. I played in the ISU Marching Band for 2 years and served as the Drumline Captain while I was involved, and I also played the snare drum for a nationally competitive Drum and Bugle Corps during my Freshman and Sophomore years. In Accounting, I am a member of the Accounting Club and participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, where students and faculty in the Accounting Department prepare tax returns for free for people in the community. I have an ‘Advanced Tax Preparer’ designation and love helping others navigate the weird, convoluted world of taxes. I have had a diverse range of experiences at ISU that have helped me grow academically and professionally, and I simply love to learn and connect with others. I plan to stay at ISU to pursue a Master of Accountancy and earn my CPA license when I finish grad school. If you are a student in Business and want to get involved in activities and networking on campus, please reach out and I will be happy to help!
