University Event Planning Guide

To the Idaho State University Campus Community:

Events are an integral part of cultivating long-lasting relationships with alumni, friends, donors and affiliates. Special events can be used as a powerful tool to communicate ISU’s stories with our audiences, and when done well, they positively reinforce the University’s image.

The goal of this guide is to provide the tools and resources needed to produce successful events, consistent with university standards. Through our coordinated and strategic efforts, we will build a strong foundation to advance our institution. Thank you for your commitment to growing and strengthening Idaho State University.

Sincerely,

Kent M. Tingey, D.A.
Vice President for University Advancement

What we do

University Events plans and implements events and special projects for the Office of the President and the Office of Marketing and Communications, and oversees high-impact events for University Advancement, Academic Affairs and other campus units. We strive to create outstanding experiences that generate goodwill for Idaho State University, and enhance understanding and support for its teaching, research and outreach mission. We set the standard of quality for University events and ensure long-standing campus traditions are maintained.

Although we do not have the resources to plan events for other departments at the University, we are happy to assist in other ways, including providing event training, one-on-one consulting and protocol guidance. If you are planning an event and one or more of the following situations apply, please contact our office to schedule a consultation:

  • The University President, high-ranking elected officials or other notable dignitaries will be participating
  • Event is a ceremony of campus--wide significance, such as a ground-breaking or building naming ceremony
  • Protocol issues, such as a visit from a foreign dignitary, exist
  • You need event-planning advice

Our mission is to help you produce a professional and successful event. This Event Planning Guide will help walk you through all aspects of your planning.

Importance of Events at ISU

All events hosted by any ISU unit or group reflect on the entire university. Whether your event is to recognize a generous donor, recruit students, welcome an interview candidate or to show appreciation to members of your faculty and staff, as an event planner, you have the opportunity to make a great impression.
