Vanessa Ballam has been performing professionally and teaching theatre around the country for the past fifteen years. Having taught acting, voice and musical theatre at institutions such as Indiana University, Utah State University, Theatre Under the Stars, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, and the Utah Shakespeare Festival, Vanessa also spent three years as a Resident Actor at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in California where she ran the first year acting program. Most recently Vanessa served as the Education Director for Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre overseeing the dawn of numerous new programs including a new Conservatory of the Performing Arts. Vanessa has performed with such companies as Theatre Under the Stars, PCPA Theatrefest, The Utah Shakespeare Festival, Pennsylvania Shakespeare, Music Theatre West, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre and the Old Lyric Repertory Company. Favorite roles include Eliza in My Fair Lady, Lilli Vanessi in Kiss Me, Kate, Desdemona in Othello, Maria in The Sound of Music, Marian in The Music Man, Peg, in Peg O’ My Heart, Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical the Musical, and Gwendolen in The Importance of Being Earnest. A former Miss Utah, Vanessa honored with the Bert Parks talent award while at the Miss America Pageant. Vanessa received her B.A. and B.F.A. from Utah State University and her M.F.A. in acting from Indiana University. She is a proud member of Actor’s Equity.
