Outdoor Education Major

The Sport Science and Physical Education department at Idaho State University offers a baccalaureate degree in Physical Education with an Outdoor Education emphasis. In completing the program, candidates will gain skills necessary to become qualified outdoor instructors. Learning goals for Physical Education Outdoor Education candidates include:

B.S. Physical Education, with an Outdoor Education Emphasis

  • Physical Education Graduation Requirements
  • Physical Education Core (9 credits)
  • Outdoor Education Emphasis (41 credits)
    • Objective 1:  Development and application of leadership and teaching skills in outdoor settings (10 credits)
    • Objective 2:  Safely engage in outdoor activities with minimal environmental impact (8 credits)
    • Objective 3:  Understand and interpret the natural environment

    Select:  Natural History Option  or  Outdoor Business  (9 credits)

    • Objective 4:  Cultivate and refine skills in a variety of outdoor activities (8 credits)
    • Objective 5: Gain education in subjects with historic and traditional importance in the outdoor education field (6 credits)
