2020 Interprofessional Continuing Education Webinar

 

The Idaho State University Kasiska Division of Health Sciences is pleased to offer our annual continuing education program, designed to update your knowledge base and rejuvenate your practice skills. This webinar will provide you with current information and a fresh perspective on a variety of topics.

Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, prescribers and other health professionals are invited to attend this program. All presentations are accredited.

Due to increasing health and safety concerns, the KDHS Continuing Education Seminar in Meridian and Coeur d'Alene have been cancelled and will be offered as a live webinar on March 29, 2020, beginning at 8:30 AM MST.

Registration and Fees


Register

Registration fees apply to all activities, including pharmacy law.

All participants must register online.
Each individual will need to complete a pre-test at the time of registration.

Pay Fees

$70

Registration fees include access to meeting materials and continuing education credit.

CE credit will be awarded to participants who attend and participate in the live program, and complete a program evaluation and learning assessment. You may access your credits within 4 weeks. Initial release date is March 29, 2020.

Refunds

No refunds will be given for cancellations made within one week of the program. The University reserves the right to cancel a course offering due to insufficient enrollment, natural disaster, or other justifiable reasons. Registration fees will be refunded in full. However, the University is not responsible for any cancellation fees assessed by airlines, travel agencies, etc.No refunds will be given for cancellations made within 1 week of the program.

If you would like handouts of the presentation slides, you must print them ahead of time. Click here to view and/or print as early as 2/23/2020.

Complete Post-Test and Evaluation

To receive credit, please complete the post-test and evaluation within one week of the program. A late fee will apply if not received by the deadline.

Pharmacy Preceptor Update for 2020

This talk will provide an overview of changes for Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences and introduce Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) for pharmacy practice.

  • Discuss changes in the College's experiential education practices and policies and ideas for implementation
  • List the six core EPA domains for pharmacy students to demonstrate competence upon completion of a pharmacy practice experience
  • Utilize EPA core domains to deliver feedback to students that do and students that do not meet competency

This talk will review constraints on traditional pharmacy revenue streams that drive the need to explore alternative sources and discuss successes from across the country. The breakout session will guide participants through outlining their own revenue diversification approach for pharmacy-based services.

  • Explain factors influencing usual revenue streams and list barriers to adopting traditional medical reimbursement in the community pharmacy setting
  • Evaluate opportunities for incorporation of alternative revenue models within the current community pharmacy structure
  • Develop a plan and timeline for roll-out of a service that capitalizes on an alternative revenue stream

Introduction to Continuous Glucose Monitoring and the Dexcom G6 and Freestyle Devices

This talk will provide an overview of continuous glucose monitoring including available options, benefits and limitations, and interpreting an ambulatory glucose profile. The break out session will cover appropriate device selection, device-specific patient education, and interpretation of downloaded data.

  • Compare and contrast currently available continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices for use in patients with diabetes
  • Interpret an ambulatory glucose profile
  • Discuss the benefits and limitations of CGM
  • Describe the role of the health care provider in identifying patients for CGM
  • Determine an appropriate device and provide education for an individual patient
  • Identify components, demonstrate set-up and review downloaded data of Dexcom and Freestyle CGM devices.

This presentation will address health care practitioner’s roles in managing patients with acute and chronic pain and strategies to mitigate the risks associated with opioid therapy.

  • Utilize the Idaho PDMP and other tools to reduce the risk of inappropriate use and diversion of controlled substances

  • Reduce the risk of a fatal overdose in patients receiving opioid therapy
