Nursing Skills & Simulation Lab

The School of Nursing is committed to provide an excellent nursing education for the students admitted to the nursing program. Today's registered nurses must adapt to the changing trends of the complex health care environment. The future nurse needs knowledge, technical skills, clinical judgment, clinical decision making skills, and communication skills to practice in the complex health care environment. Idaho State University School of Nursing provides innovative and meaningful learning experiences through a variety of simulations. Simulation incorporates using high fidelity mannequins, community members as patient actors, task trainers, and other types of computerized simulators.

Key Features:

The Human Simulation provides a realistic and safe environment for nursing students to learn and hone their skills for the complex health care environment. Through the use of high fidelity manikins which includes:

  • Three METIman® A teaching manikin designed to teach and reinforce crucial nursing and prehospital skills. With human-like, highly responsive physiology (blinking, reactive pupils, bilateral chest movement) and has realistic heart, lung and bowel sounds
  • Two VitalSim® Manikins
  • One Simbaby®
  • Six other fidelity manikins

Originally built as an emergency overflow unit for Bannock Regional Medical Center the SIM lab is fully stocked with devices and material used in local hospitals for students to practice with during simulations. The learning center features five hospital private rooms, one assisted living room, four open beds, two clinic examination rooms, and a classroom.

Simulation Lab tours are conducted Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
