Profile

Dr. Susan Tavernier is the Director of Graduate Studies and Associate Professor of Nursing, teaching in the graduate programs from Meridian. She is nurse scientist with a program of research in the individual context and priorities of the cancer patient. She has expertise with large qualitative data sets and conducting research in the clinical setting. Dr. Tavernier is the recipient of NIH, Oncology Nursing Foundation and ISU School of Nursing funding. She completed funded research in the areas of individualized health-related quality of life, patient provider communication, distress management, healing touch, 5Rhythms® Movement Therapy and healing presence. She was the co-investigator on a $1.5 million Idaho Senior Interprofessional Holistic Health Project funded by HRSA. Susan presented her research at numerous national conferences and is published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Tavernier authored textbook chapters on Distress and serves as a peer reviewer for several oncology, qualitative research and quality of life journals.

Dr. Tavernier received awards for teaching innovation, outstanding mentorship, achievement in research and publication. She is actively involved in the American Nurses Association of Idaho and area hospital nursing research and evidence-based practice projects.
