Research Interests

Dr. Gordon's areas of research include hunger and food insecurity and the social determinants of health. Public health program development and evaluation is a primary area of interest. She has an expertise in health literacy. Dr. Gordon also investigates the influence of nutrition on urological conditions. Lastly, a burgeoning research pursuit is pedagogy, including the utilization of interprofessional experiential learning experiences to optimally train clinical health professionals.

Bio

Dr. Gordon has diverse research pursuits. She is currently PI on a CDC Diabetes Prevention Program grant and a team member on an HRSA Idaho Frontiers in Maternal Health grant. Dr. Gordon also works with the ISU-Meridian outpatient clinic, which provides in-person and tele-nutrition appointments for all Idahoans. For the Idaho Primary Care Association, she evaluated the influence of increasing access to fruits and vegetables on managing blood glucose levels among individuals with diabetes seeking care at Federally Qualified Health Centers. 

Gordon is a member of the National Advisory Board for the PCORI study, Comparing Surgery and Medical Management for Treating Diverticulitis—The COSMID Study. Experience includes serving on a number of National Institutes of Health (NIH) research and advisory committees:

  • Steering Committee, Multidisciplinary Approach to Pelvic Pain Research Network
  • Advisory Committee, Office of Research on Women’s Health Ten-Year Plan and Research Agenda
  • Coordinating Committee, National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse

Dr. Gordon holds a Doctor of Education from ISU focusing on instructional design and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recently recognized her as a Fellow—this designation is awarded to RDNs who have consistently lived up to the Academy’s values of customer focus, integrity, innovation, and social responsibility. In 2020, she was voted Outstanding Dietitian of the Year in Idaho.
