Volunteers needed for the 2017 Haunted Science Lab

October, 2, 2017

POCATELLO – Volunteers are needed in October for the 2017 Haunted Science Lab in Pocatello.

For the last six years, the ISU Society of Physics Students, the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello, and ISU Physics have hosted a Haunted Science Laboratory open to field trips from local schools, free of charge.

Volunteers from ISU, the Kiwanis Club, and the Pocatello community have provided educational, engaging and spooky science fun with interactive science exhibits and activities.  The Kiwanis Club has also contributed funds to schools for busing costs.  However, additional help is needed to ensure that this year’s exhibitions are a success.

The Haunted Laboratory will include a Van deGraaf generator, lasers moving to music, and lots of cool illusions. Several exhibits use the same principles of those of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, except that here they are explained.

Setup and preparations for the exhibits will occur Oct. 7 – 22.  Field trips will be Oct. 23 – 27 and the exhibits will be open to the public for a fee on Saturday, Oct. 28, and on Sunday, October 29.  Proceeds from the public events will go to Kiwanis-supported charities for children.

The Haunted Science Lab will be in the Pine Ridge Mall in Chubbuck (across from the southern entrance, just north of CAL Ranch).

To volunteer or for more information, contact Steve Shropshire, program director of ISU physics, at 282-2212 or shrostev@isu.edu.
