Transgender Day of Remembrance events set Nov. 15-16

POCATELLO – The Idaho State University Department of Sociology, Social Work, Criminology and the Gender Resource Center will host Transgender Day of Remembrance events Nov.15-16.

The event on Nov. 15 offers a one-credit Continuing Education Unit (CEU) opportunity. It will be held in the Rendezvous Complex Suites ABC from 3 to 4 p.m. and is presented by Dominee Hall, a licensed social worker. The presentation focuses on cultural competency for helping professionals and the LGBTQ community.

Community members attending will be charged a $10 fee; proceeds will be donated to the ISU Student Social Work and Sociology Association.

The event is free to ISU students and faculty.

The event on Nov. 16 will be held in the Diversity Resource Center in the Rendezvous Complex from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sociologist Jodi Dunn will present “Trans 101 Discussion,” where he will discuss important topics in relation to the transgender population.

 There will also be a panel of community members who identify as transgender, work with transgender individuals as a mental health professional, or family members of transgender individuals, to engage in an open discussion with the attendees of the event. This event will close with a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the reported transgender individuals murdered this year.

This events is free to all community, student and faculty members.
