Opera Idaho to present Gaetano Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” Nov. 3 at ISU Stephens Performing Arts Center
October, 24, 2017
POCATELLO – Cited as one of opera’s most endearing comedies, Gaetano Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore,” will be bringing an updated version of this comedy to the Stephens Performing Arts Center Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Opera Idaho’s production of Gaetano Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, one of Opera’s most endearing comedies, features Opera Idaho Artist-in-Residence soprano Emily Hansen as Adina, tenor Thomas Glenn as the country-bumpkin Nemorino, bass-baritone Christopher Job as the slippery Dulcamara, Boise baritone Jason Detwiler as the braggadocious Belcore, and Boise soprano Jena Carpenter as Gianetta. This season’s production has been updated to the late 1940s or early 1950s. Adina is the proprietor of the nightclub and their star chanteuse. Nemorino is the janitor, smitten with his boss. Gianetta is the head waiter and leader of the club's chorus. Dulcamara is a travelling snake-oil salesman who has come to town with his two assistants. And Belcore is an army officer on leave before his deployment. The production, originally staged for Resonance Works Pittsburgh, won the American Prize in Opera Performance in 2015.
