Dear Students, Alumni, Parents, Visitors, and Friends,
On behalf of our dedicated faculty and staff, I welcome you to the Department of Global Studies and Languages.
Our department continues to make giant strides in teaching and research and with some of the most diverse faculty and student bodies in the nation; our commitment to student success is unmatched. We offer Master of Arts degree in Spanish (online), Graduate Certificate in Spanish, Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, Bachelor of Arts in Spanish for the Health Professions (SHP), Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies, and minors in Global Studies, German, French, and Japanese. Our program provides students with a firm grounding in a discipline and empowers them to explore knowledge from different perspectives.
As one of the most thriving Global Education programs in the nation, our department has grown to become the largest interdisciplinary academic unit on campus with faculty specialties in a variety of languages, international studies, women and gender studies, history, political science, public health, geography, and economics. Our students and faculty hail from Idaho and other parts of the U.S. as well as from different regions of the world with diverse backgrounds. Our alumni go on to a myriad of graduate programs and careers. One thing our students share in common is a deep interest in the issues, events, languages, and cultures of the world.
Our graduates (some of whom were recipients of the outstanding student award) have recorded tremendous placements with government agencies, private industries, research foundations, and educational institutions, with some going on to medical schools and law schools. We invite you to join this inspiring and exciting environment as you seek opportunities for future growth and success.
If you are a graduate student, undergraduate major or minor, or certificate-seeking student, we hope you continue your academic and career journey with us. Our devoted and talented faculty and staff with honors such as Master Teacher, Outstanding Researcher, and Distinguished Service Awards, and millions of grant dollars, invite prospective students to join our department with the firm assurance that your success is our priority.
With my best wishes,
Raphael Chijioke Njoku
