Alan Stanek

Director

Dr. Alan E. Stanek, DMA, is professor emeritus of the ISU Department of Music, and the former chair of the department (1976-2001). From 1976 to 1980, he was the conductor/music director of the Idaho State-Civic Symphony. From 1980 until his retirement in 2001, he served as principal clarinetist of the Idaho State-Civic Symphony. Dr. Stanek is an active member of the International Clarinet Association having served as its president from 1996 to 1998 and the historian for the association. In addition to guest art­ist appearances at ICA ClarinetFests® held at major universities in the United States, he has performed internationally in France, Belgium, and Hungary. Dr. Stanek was a consultant in higher education in music and a visiting accreditation evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
He was a founding member and Director of Citizens Community Bank in Pocatello. Dr. Stanek was honored with the Idaho Governor’s Award for Support of Arts Education in October 1998 and was inducted into the Idaho Music Educators Hall of Fame in January 2006. He received the President’s Medallion for outstanding accomplishments, exceptional service and personal generosity which reflect the admirable principles and ideals which bring distinction to ISU in 2017. More recently, the International Clarinet Association awarded Honorary Membership to Dr. Stanek for Lifetime Achievements in Performance, Teaching and Professional Service in July 2019. Stanek is a long-serving Pocatello/Gate City Rotarian and current member of the Suburban Rotary of Omaha where he is song leader and a Trustee of the Suburban Rotary Foundation.
