IMC Collections

State Adopted Textbooks

The IMC textbook collection includes P-12 textbooks in varied subject areas such as Language Arts, Mathematics, Calculus, Reading, Social Studies, Science, Health, Social Science, vocational materials, and more. Student edition, teacher edition, as well as teacher resources are included in this collection. All of the textbook collection circulates for three weeks and can be renewed.

Reference Collection

The IMC has a small reference collection: Academic American Encyclopedia, Compton's Precyclopedia, Children's Britannica, The World Book Encyclopedia of People and Places, Childcraft, The World Book Encyclopedia, The New Book of Knowledge, and dictionaries for all ages including subjects from writing to law. These reference materials do not circulate without permission.

Award Book Collection

The IMC Award Book collection consists of Caldecott and Newbery winners 1930s to 2001. This small collection circulates for two weeks.

Professional Literature

In addition to instructional materials, the College of Education master theses and doctoral dissertations are also housed in the IMC. The Center also contains other professional materials such as Fastbacks from series 1 to 457 and Accomplished Teaching with video tapes.

Manipulatives and Multimedia

The manipulative collection is made up of a variety of hands-on instructional materials. These manipulatives circulate for three weeks and can be renewed. The IMC also has laser video discs, audio tapes, video tapes, CDs, and DVDs in various subject areas. Some of them do not circulate. A media preview room is equipped with a computer, a color TV with video cassette recorder, and VHS for patrons to examine and preview the visual materials.

Classification and Call Number

The IMC uses Dewey Decimal numbers, publishers, grade levels, publication year, and reading levels for the system of call numbers. The following diagram is a typical example of call numbers used for textbook collection. We hope the diagram will help you understand the IMC call numbers, but please feel free to ask for help in finding materials.
