Supplemental Note Taker Policy

As a student with Supplemental Note Takers, I am responsible for:

  • Taking my own independent notes for classes that are not real-time, lecture-based courses

Supplemental Note Takers will provide me with basic support for the two types of standard lecture courses:

1) In-person lecture courses

2) Remote, real-time courses

In general, Supplemental Note Takers are not provided for fully online courses, labs, etc. To discuss your accommodations needs for courses outside of the standard lecture courses, contact your Disability Services Specialist to discuss your needs.

  • My own engagement and success in the class

The Note Taker will supplement with basic notes when I am is present in class. I am expected to take my own notes and use DS notes for support purposes. The Note Taker will not be participating in class in any way, it is your class.

  • Giving notice of class absences or tardiness

As a courtesy, please let your Note Takers or Disability Services know if you are unable to attend class or will be running late. You can exchange email/phone numbers with your Supplemental Note Taker or contact the Disability Services office at (208) 282-3599. The Supplemental Note Takers are instructed to wait for you to come to class for 15 minutes. If you do not arrive within that time and they do not know you are running late, they will be reassigned to another class for that day and you will not receive supplemental notes.

  • Only receive supplemental notes when I attend class

If I need to leave during lecture for whatever reason, the Supplemental Note Takers are instructed to stop taking notes. I will receive the information I am in attendance for. If I miss class or part of the lecture, it is my responsibility to get that information from a fellow student or from the instructor.

  • Downloading my supplemental notes

It is my responsibility to login into the Student Services Portal to download my notes. If I have not downloaded the notes after the second week of classes, I will be contacted to see if changes to your accommodations need to be made to provide you with equal access to your classes.

  • Contact Disability Service if I need to adjust/change my note-taking accommodation
