ISU Dance offers multiple opportunities for students to perform, choreograph, work with guest artists, attend conferences, and engage in collaborative projects. Some highlights from 2018-2019 include:
October 2018: Two-week guest artist residency with Bill Evans, supported by the Bistline Foundation and the Cultural Events Committee. “This residency was the most enriching and inspiring experience this school year. Thank you ISU for bringing Bill Evans to Idaho and for allowing the community to experience the residency too.” Rachel Swenson, Idaho Fine Arts Academy
December 6-9 2018: ISU Dance Concert featuring works by Bill Evans, Brit Falcon (NYC based choreographer), Zachariah Mulberry (dance major, Class of 2019), Lauralee Zimmerly, Sergiu Brindusa, Kelli Brown, and Kathy Diehl. The Concert included live music by student Sam Paytosh and guest dancers from The Dance Factory performed as well.
March 2019: ISU Dance attends the Northwest Region American College Dance Association Conference at University of Utah and makes ISU history by having both a faculty and student work selected for the Gala concert. Dance major Amanda Stubblefield’s work To the Core was chosen for further adjudication for the Jacob’s Pillow International Dance Festival.
April 2019: Premiere of Sleep, with music professor, Dr. Pat Brooks and the wind ensemble students. And, the first-ever Senior Capstone Concert is held in the Transition Gallery and is standing room only!
May 2019: Dance majors Zachariah Mulberry and Amanda Stubblefield’s creative works are chosen for inclusion in the ISU student journal Black Rock and Sage. Another first for the dance program!
