World MoveIt Day 2019

We’re excited to announce that Mechanical Engineering Department of Idaho State University will be supporting World MoveIt Day on November 20th.
World MoveIt Day is an international hackathon to get to know MoveIt and improve its code base, documentation, and community. We hope to help students get familiar with this popular open source platform for manipulation purpose of a vast range of robots. Beginners are welcome to join us to learn and review the tutorials and get immediate help when needed.
MoveIt is state of the art open source software for mobile manipulation, incorporating the latest advances in motion planning, manipulation, 3D perception, kinematics, control and navigation. It provides an easy-to-use platform for developing advanced robotics applications, evaluating new robot designs and building integrated robotics products for industrial, commercial, R&D and other domains.
Engineering Research Center of College of Science and Technology will be hosting this event, joining by
video conference at least 7 other locations around the world. We will be working from conference room
- Bring your own laptop with Ubuntu 18.04 (16.04 is also acceptable) as the operating system.
Some familiarity with Ubuntu and basic knowledge of C++.
- Have ROS melodic for Ubuntu 18.04 or ROS-kinetic for Ubuntu 16.04 installed.
- Install MoveIt:
sudo apt-get install ros-melodic-moveit
sudo apt-get install ros-kinetic-moveit
If you have problem installing ROS or MoveIt, we can help you.
