Rhetoric and Media Affairs

More than any other emphasis, Rhetoric & Media Affairs provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to analyze and craft effective persuasive messages, speeches, arguments, and movements. Graduates of this program often find employment as: spokesperson/communication specialist for advocacy groups/non-profit organizations/ government organizations, public affairs specialist, political campaigns, legislative representative, lobbyist, public outreach specialist, policy analyst, diplomatic relations.

Rhetoric and Media Affairs

Rhetoric and Media Affairs is a major that emphasizes public rhetoric and persuasion in a wide variety of contexts and media. Students get a broad education in practical courses that help them become better communicators and in theoretical courses that help them understand the persuasiveness of public messages. Students who emphasize Rhetoric and Media Affairs are better equipped to write and evaluate messages communicated to the public, to write and evaluate arguments in law, politics and the corporate world. This is allso an excellent major for those interested in a career in law.

  • CMP 4410 Mass Media History, Law, and Ethics

Choose THREE Career Track Electives

Take 9 credits, 6  of which are at 3000-level or above from the CMP course listings. Students are encouraged to take classes that fit in their overall career objectives. Students should meet with their major advisor to help plan their Career Track Elective courses.
