Who is eligible for Bengal STEP?
Bengal STEP is available to first-year students living on campus.
Who is considered a "first-year" student?
First-year student refers to any student who is attending Idaho State University for the first time. This includes Freshman, transfer students, and students who may have an upper-division class standing due to Dual Enrollment credits, but are officially attending ISU for the first time.
What is considered "living on campus"?
If you live in the following campus housing residences, you are eligible to apply to STEP:
- Turner Hall
- Rendezvous
- South Complex (Nichols, Owen, Dyer, and Redfield Halls)
- Schubert Heights
- Ridge Crest apartments
- McIntosh Manor apartments
- University Courts apartments
- Pulling Courts apartments
- West Campus apartments
How much does a STEP employee get paid?
Bengal STEP employees are paid the university standard for undergraduate workers, which is $9 an hour.
How many hours a week will I work?
Research shows that students working more that 15 hours a week have negative correlations with GPAs. Therefore, STEP students' hours are kept between 10-15 hours a week.
If my class schedule changes, can I change my work schedule?
A flexible schedule is one of the greatest perks of working on campus. Your supervisors understand your studies come first and will work to accommodate any changes you may need to make to your schedule.
What professional development opportunities are available through STEP?
Students participating in Bengal STEP can participate in multiple professional development opportunities facilitated by the ISU Career Center including:
- Resume writing and review
- Mock Interview
- Personal career counseling
- Experiential learning advising
What does the supervisor one-on-one entail?
Twice a semester you will meet one-on-one with your supervisor to discuss how your work with Bengal STEP translates to what you are learning in your classes. Reseach shows that students who participate in these types of interactions persist, academically perform, and complete at higher rates than their non-student employee counterparts.
