Idaho State-Civic Symphony to host Valentine’s Day concert featuring Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
Celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early with your special someone or a group of friends by enjoying dinner and the Symphony at the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 10. Tickets to the dinner and the concert are sold separately, but you can double your fun by joining Maestro Grant Harville for both events.
The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Bennion Promenade with a no-host bar, during which you may mingle with friends while enjoying the charming sounds of the Symphony. The menu features pan seared petite filet, grilled shrimp skewers, spring salad mix, herbed couscous, roasted red potatoes, steamed asparagus, glazed carrots, vanilla cheesecake with chocolate ganache, raspberry coulis and whipped cream or cocoa crème brulee.
After dinner, guests will gather in the Joseph C. and Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall for a spectacular performance of ballet and symphonic excellence featuring Jacqueline Burnett, David Schultz, Michael Gross and Emilie Leriche of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
The concert will begin with repetitive trills and lively rhythms from a piece by Manuel de Falla titled, “Ritual Fire Dance.” Then Hubbard Street Dance Chicago will perform to the tender “Berceuse” by Benjamin Godard. Next, the orchestra will sweep you away with “The Chairman Dances” by John Adams, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago will perform to the calming piece, “Spiegel im Spiegel” by Arvo Part. After intermission, performances include a piece by Edward German titled, “Three Dances for Henry VIII,” and the concert ends with one last performance with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago to Tchaikovsky’s, “Theme and Variations from Suite 3.”
Dinner tickets are unavailable at the door; all dinner reservation and payment of $45 per person by check or credit card must be received by Feb. 7. Tables will be set in groups, so if you plan to celebrate the occasion with friends, simply note the names of your party when making a reservation, and seating at the same table can be arranged. Please call Stephanie Moore at (208) 301-8877 for reservations; payment may be mailed to the Symphony Office at 921 South 8th, M.S. 8099, Pocatello ID 83209.
If you already have other dinner plans, but would like to attend the concert, please contact the ISU Performing Arts Box Office at (208) 282-3595 for tickets. Tickets are $36 for adults and $19 for children (through high school). A limited number of seats are available free to ISU students upon presentation of a valid student ID.
