Department News

Congratulations to Catherine Black who was honored as the 2017 Distinguished Teacher at the Idaho State University Commencement in May. Catherine is a senior lecturer in Biology. She has been involved with undergraduate instruction in Idaho Falls since 1994. Catherine is the 8th faculty member from Biological Sciences to be honored as Distinguished Teacher since the inception of the award in 1977. Previous awardees are Ed House (1979), Rod Seeley (1986), Trent Stephens (1992), Don Streubel (1998), Margaret Ptacek (2000), Maureen Brandon (2003), and Barbara Frank (2015) - Biological Sciences represents nearly 25% of the awardees! Congratulations, Catherine, and thanks for keeping up the tradition of teaching excellence in the Department of Biological Sciences!

Biology Open House on Monday, October 30, 2017, from 9-11 a.m. in the Gale Life Science Building (65). Please join us as we celebrate the completion of our new teaching labs. These labs will be used in support of classes for KDHS programs in PT/OT, Nursing, PA, IDEP, Pharmacy, MLS, as well as Biological Sciences courses in cell biology, biochemistry, ecology, and others.

Dr. Zhao Ma, will present a seminar, “Ecosystem Services,” Tuesday, October 17, 2017, in Liberal Arts 324 at 4 p.m.

Ruth MacNeille, DA graduate student with Dr. Kitty Lohse, will present her proposal seminar, "Transformation and Transportation in Shifting Landscapes: Exploring Patterns in Streams and Education," Thursday, October 19, 2017, in Lecture Center 10 at noon.

Dr. Janet Loxterman, Associate Professor and Assistant Chair of ISU Biological Sciences will present a Scholarly Lecture, “Genetic Tools for Species Conservation,” Thursday, October 26, 2017, in Salmon River Suite, Pond Student Union at 7 p.m. This lecture is sponsored by The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Chapter #110 Idaho State University.

David Huber, PhD graduate student with Dr. Kitty Lohse, will present his defense seminar Friday, October 27, 2017, in Lecture Center 10 at noon.

Cordelia Chong, DA graduate student with Dr. Rosemary Smith, will present her defense seminar Thursday, November 2, 2017, in Lecture Center 10 at noon.

Stephanie Zorio, DA graduate student with Dr. Ken Aho, will present her proposal seminar Thursday, November 9, 2017, in Lecture Center 10 at noon.

Jessica Whitaker, PhD graduate student with Dr. Jason Pilarski, will present her proposal seminar Thursday, November 30, 2017, in Lecture Center 10 at noon.

Payroll Information

Our pay period ends Saturday, October 21. Please be sure to submit your time by Monday, October 23 at noon. This gives your approver time to approve your time card and fix any problems by Tuesday, October 24 when time cards are due to Payroll.
