Although born in Washington, Averi was raised in Southeastern Idaho. She graduated from Madison High School in 2014 and started her education at Idaho State University later that year. During her undergraduate degree, she conducted research with Dr. Robert Holman of the Chemistry department and Dr. Kenneth Rodnick of the Biology department. Their research was centered on Diabetes and determining whether or not artificial sweeteners could produce productive chemical mechanisms with the human hemoglobin HBa1. She graduated from Idaho State in 2017 with a Bachelor in Biology, an Honors Distinction, and at the top of her class. She is now working on her M.S. in Microbiology with Dr. Julia Martin, conducting research on molecular mechanisms of metal ions in Streptococcus pneumoniae.
