Type, Paper, Scissors: A Broadside Exhibit

Pinyon Jay Press and Idaho State University invite artists to submit broadsides using hand set type for a national juried exhibition in the Transition Gallery in the Pond Student Union in Pocatello, Idaho. This exhibition will be juried by Jessica Spring.
JUROR: Jessica Spring – Jessica Spring learned to set real metal type in 1989 and has been a letterpress printer ever since, most recently inventing Daredevil Furniture to help other printers set type in circles, curves and angles. Her work at Springtide Press—artist books, broadsides and ephemera—is included in collections around the country and abroad. She also collaborates on the Dead Feminists broadside series with illustrator Chandler O’Leary. Spring has an MFA from Columbia College and teaches letterpress printing and book arts. http://www.springtidepress.com
Water Ecologies

The Idaho State University Department of Art, in partnership with NFS/EPSCoR MILES* is excited to announce an open call for contemporary art exploring Water Ecology.
Juror: Basia Irland
Basia Irland is an author, poet, sculptor, installation artist, and activist who creates international water projects, many of which are featured in her book, Water Library (University of New Mexico Press, 2007). The book focuses on projects the artist has created over three decades in Africa, Canada, Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, and The United States. Through her work, Irland offers a creative understanding of water while examining how communities of people, plants and animals rely on this vital element. Irland is Professor Emerita, Department of Art and Art History, University of New Mexico, where she established the Arts and Ecology Program.
*Researchers involved with the NSF, EPSCoR grant, Managing Idaho's Landscapes in Ecosystem Services (MILES) are working to advance the state of Idaho's capacity to solve complex social‐ecological processes associated with urban growth of mid-sized cities. By creating new knowledge about relationships between ecosystem services, landscape change, and associated socio-economic systems, the researchers are helping policy makers, stakeholders and the public understand how to better sustainably manage Idaho's resources.
Undergraduate Art Exhibition

Entrants must have graduated or plan to graduate by Fall 2015, Spring 2015 or Summer 2016 from an undergraduate art program. Graduate scholarships will be awarded to winning artists contingent upon their acceptance into the Idaho State University MFA program for Fall 2016. Idaho State University offers graduate Programs in: Sculpture, Painting, Drawing, Jewelry, Fibers, Ceramics and New Media.

Idaho State University: Latino/a Americans 500 Years

The Idaho State University Department of Art, in partnership with the Department of Global Studies and Languages, is excited to announce an open call for art exploring contemporary voices of Latino Artists in America. This exhibition coincides with year-long programming, funded by the NEH, centering around the PBS series Latino Americans: 500 Years of History.
This exhibition will showcase and explore new expressions of ever-evolving Latino voices in America. Latino/a Americans: 500 years will reflect not only the richness and diversity of Latino culture, but also its claim to fame - inclusivity! Work that prescribes new visual discourse regarding identity is of special interest, but not necessary for consideration.
Juror: Consuelo Underwood
Bio: Consuelo Jimenez Underwood is a contemporary Latina fiber artist who has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her weavings and textile/fiber artworks express strong political/social viewpoints and commentaries. In various works, Consuelo modernizes her textiles by including other media such as gold, barbed wire, caution tape and silk screening on images. A retired Professor and Coordinator of the Fiber Area in the School of Art & Design at San Jose State University in California for more than twenty years, she has also lectured and consulted throughout her academic career. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Mexican Museum in San Francisco, The Museum of Art & Design in NY, and the National Hispanic Center for the Arts in New Mexico.
