First Generation Authors | All Week | At Participating Locations

Learn about and connect with first generation authors. Explore the books that have been published by these amazing authors. 

The Eli M Oboler Library on the ISU Pocatello Campus, as well as the Marshall Public Library and Portneuf District Library will have first generation books on display.

Scavenger Hunt | All Week  | ISU Campus 

Participate in this week-long scavenger hunt and win awesome prizes. A winner will be announced by November 15.  Make sure to submit all of your findings by Friday! All prizes sponsored by ICCU. 

All are welcome to participate. 

First Place Prize: iPad

Second Place Prize: $100 Gift Card with a Game Night Basket 

Third Place Prize: $50 Gift Card with a Movie Night Basket

Pick up your first-generation sticker, learn a little bit about the events going on the rest of the week, and share your first generation college student story. 

 

A National Celebration Centering First-Gen Voices | 1 - 2 p.m. | Virtual 

A National Celebration Centering First-gen Voices will feature a panel of first generation students and graduates sharing insights into their experiences. This panel is moderated by Dr. Quintin B. Bullock, President, Community College of Allegheny County located in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. This  event is sponsored by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and NASPA,  the national organization for the field of Student Affairs. The panel explores our understanding of the first-gen identity and experiences, so we may better align institution resources and support offerings to meet the unique needs of first generation students.

  • Ms. Alexia Patino, undergraduate student, North Central College
  • Ms. Pierina Sanchez, Democratic nominee, New York City Council, TRIO Alum

Connect and Learn (Faculty and Staff) | Noon - 1:30 p.m. | Virtual 

Join ISU Access and Opportunity Programs and the National Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) for this Connect and Learn conversation geared toward faculty, staff, and community members. This panel includes Dr. Marcia Chatelain, Pulitzer Prize Winner, as well as national senior campus administrators discussing national first generation issues and solutions. This is followed by a conversation with ISU Access and Opportunity Programs about how they work toward educational equity and outreach through Southcentral and Eastern Idaho.

Celebrate First Generation Veterans | 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. | SUB Quad Lounge 

Celebrate Veterans Day and First Generation Veteran College Student day by connecting with fellow veterans and gaining insight from support services such as:

  • Veteran Student Services Center
  • TRIO Veterans Program
  • Student Veterans of America
  • Military Education Benefits
  • Fairway Mortgage Company

Also enjoy patriotic cupcakes, a free t-shirt, and live music by Colter Wilson Band.

First-Gen Research Exhibition and Workshops | 1- 3 p.m. | 3rd Floor SUB

"First Gen Student Research Exhibition"| 3rd Floor SUB Lounge and Clearwater Room 

Idaho State University students will be displaying their research. Hot chocolate will be served to those attending as well. 

Anyone is welcome to attend this event. 

Workshop: "How to help First Generation College Students in the Classroom" | Snake River Suites 

This is a workshop presented by Danielle Wylie, PhD. This workshop is for faculty and staff who want to help their first generation students succeed in the classroom.
