The Henry's (North) Fork of the Snake River, along with its major tributary, the Teton River, is widely
recognized as one of the premier trout streams in the world. In 1998, the members of the conservation
group
Trout Unlimited voted the Henry's Fork as the number one trout stream in the country. At the same
time, the Henry's Fork supplies irrigation water to the largest seed potato production region in the world.
Water management conflicts among various user groups in the watershed resulted in the 1993 formation of the
Henry's Fork Watershed Council, which has become one of the most successful groups in the country at
addressing natural resource management conflicts through collaborative, nonadversarial means. The Henry's
Fork watershed has been my home and the source of my livelihood for most of my adult life, and I feel
blessed to be so intimately associated with the river and with the Watershed Council. I have studied
and written about the Henry's Fork extensively, and you can find most of my published and written work
about the river on the research page. The most complete compilation of
scientific information on the Henry's Fork is contained in the
Intermountain Journal of Sciences Volume 6,
Number 3 (2000), a special issue devoted to the Henry's Fork. Copies are available directly from
IJS or from the
Henry's Fork Foundation.
On this page, I invite you to get to know the Henry's Fork through my photo gallery and through links to
