Study Questions:  Rawls


1.  What is the purpose of the 'original position'?  What are the main features of the original
       position as Rawls describes it?  In particular, what is the veil of ignorance.

2.  How does Rawls defend his description of the original position?  In particular, how does
       he defend the constraints of the veil of ignorance?  Why does he think it is fair to choose
       princples of justice under these conditions?

3.  Explain briefly Rawls' 2 principles of justice.  Why might individuals in the original position
       choose these two principles?
