The topic
should take you into the
details of one of these theories, and a significant portion of the
paper should be devoted to explaining these details.

The topic
should engage one or more of
the theories critically. That
is, it should provide a critical
evaluation of some aspect of one or both of them. This
could take any number of
forms—developing an objection against one of the theories, defending
one of
them against an objection, defending one theory as superior to the
other. Here as well, the more carefully
you can
develop and defend your critical evaluation, the better. Be sure
to consider
how a defender of the theory you are discussing could best
respond to any objection you are raising.
