1. Crucial to Hampton's view is the notion of convention consent.  What is this?


2.  Hampton argues that one of the advantages of modern democracies is that they find
       ways of minimizing mastery of their subjects?  How do they do this?

3.  Consider Hampton's consent-based theory as a whole.  What problems do you think
       remain for this theory?  How might they be solved?  What does this lead you to
       conclude regarding the overall prospects for a consent-based theory of political
       authority?
