Study questions:  Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics, Book I


1.  What are the two criteria that a good must meet in order to qualify as the chief good?  What does
        Aristotle think meets these criteria?  How does he defend this view?

2.  How does Aristotle define and explain happiness?  How does he think the nature of human
         happiness is related to the function of a human being?

3.  Think about the main features of the view that Aristotle has set out.  What problems or
        weaknesses might there be for this view?  How might Aristotle try to address them?
