Since 2000, I have worked in Aleut villages of Alaska mapping socioeconomic relations around commercial and subsistence fisheries, including identity and status, economic development, fisheries permit access and policies, the globalization of fisheries, Aleut social life, and Russian and Scandinavian heritages on the North Pacific. My research interests include socio-ecological and applied anthropology, social anthropology of northern peoples, subsistence and commercial fishing practices, indigenous rights and representations of identity, globalization, human relationships to endangered species, and environmental policymaking.

Born in Sun Valley, Idaho, and raised on the Camas Prairie, Fairfield, Idaho. Married to Dr. Herbert Maschner since 1997. We have two darling children: Alexander (b. 2001) and Augustus (b. 2005).
