Project SEED Mission Statement

ÒTo assure that students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have opportunities to experience the challenges and rewards of chemically related sciences.Ó

What is Project SEED?

Project SEED is designed to encourage economically disadvantaged high school students to pursue career opportunities in the chemical sciences. During this summer, students will work in the ISU Chemistry research laboratories doing hands-on research guided by a scientist-mentor. Students who are taking or have taken a high school chemistry course and have not graduated from high school are eligible for the Summer I programs.   Students will be paid $3,000 ($3,500 for SEED II) stipend during the research period from June 1 to July 24 of 2009 (8 weeks).

College scholarships are also available for SEED students who are graduating from high school and plan to attend college. The scholarships are restricted to students who will major in a chemical science field such as chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or materials science.  The scholarships are intended to assist former SEED participants in their transition from high school to college.
