Project: The objective of this study was to determine whether variation in fungal infection was related to previous reports of age- and microsite-dependent variation in conifer seedling survival near timberline.   Moreover, experiments were designed to better understand the separate influences of microclimate and soil properties on fungal infection levels.  Hopefully this study will lend a better insight into the role symbiotic fungi play for successful seedling establishment within harsh environments.
