Project: I am investigating the distribution of naturally occurring cesium and strontium in plants and soils that are present on the eastern Snake River Plain and adjoining areas. Of particular interest are plant species and environmental conditions associated with high transfer factors from soil to shoot. The purpose of this work is to develop new strategies to maximize removal by phytoremediation of radionuclides from contaminated soils into plants native to arid environments of the region.
