Math 257 – Kriloff
Project 1 - Interview

1. Read the Education Column from the Association for Women in Mathematics Newsletter, Jan-Feb 1999.

2. Find someone you know who is not convinced or is not confident that he or she is capable of doing very much mathematics.

3. Interview that person and find at least five ways other than balancing their checkbook in which he or she does use mathematics in their career, hobbies, or everyday life.  No more than one way can be the same as a way mentioned in the article.

4. Turn in a typed report of up to 2 double spaced pages.  It should include your reason for choosing the person you did, what uses of mathematics you found and both your and your interviewee’s reactions to the interview.

Due Date: Friday, September 8, 2002.

You will receive up to 7 points for following the guidelines above, up to 8 points for the depth and originality of your examples, and up to 5 points for style (the quality and clarity of your writing and explanations, which includes spelling and grammar).
