Foreword

I could not have completed Imaginative Writing without the help of many people.  First, I would like to thank the theorists whose work contributed to the structure of this book.  The ideas of David A. Kolb, Howard Gardner, Martin Rossman, and David Bresler formed the foundation for my own thinking about creativity and how we learn to write.

The struggles and successes of my creative writing students provided the impetus for writing this book.  I especially want to thank the students who allowed me to use their writing as examples:  Mark Ames, Allan Blad, Janet Burtt, Sherri Johnston, Mary Ann Knust, Nailil Kunz, Greg Scott McCormick, Lisa Smith, and Pamela Stewart.

The Department of English and Philosophy at Idaho State University granted me an unpaid leave of absence from my teaching duties to enable me to write an early draft of this book.

Finally, my dear husband, Winslow Hunt, deserves a special thank you for his support and proofreading skills.
