THOM RITTER GEORGE
Thom Ritter George was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan where he showed and early interest in composition at the age of ten. He received his Bachelor of Music degree with Distinction (1964) and Master of Music degree (1968) from the Eastman School of Music. He was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Catholic University of America (Washington, D.C.) in 1970. From 1966 to 1970, Dr. George was composer-arranger for the United States Navy Band, Washington, D.C. During the period 1970-1983, he was Music Director and Conductor of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Quincy, Illinois. From 1983 to 2007, Dr. George served as Music Director of the Idaho State Civic Symphony. Starting in 2007, Thom Ritter George has been engaged in orchestral guest conducting and composition.

Thom Ritter George is the recipient of many prizes, including the 1974 Ensemble Composition Contest of the International Trombone Association for his Aria and Dance. He has written over 350 works ranging from simple songs to large symphonic compositions. His interest in writing for brass instruments dates from the early 1960s, the period of his association with the great trombone teacher, Emory Remington.
