Essential principles of microbiology and an introduction to various applications of economic importance. There is no credit for this course if it is taken after BIOL 235. The prerequisites for BIOL221 and 221L include CHEM 101 or CHEM 111, BIOL 101 and BIOL 102. BIOL 223 is a corequisite. BIOL221 and 221L must be taken simultaneously.
