Scholarship Information
                                                         Scholarship information:
Among my service activities, I am the Chair of the Scholarship Committee for the Communication Department. The Deparment has varying amounts of scholarship money available each semester. Students who are declared communication majors are encouraged to apply each semester. Students who are majors in Organizational Communication, Speech Communication, or Education with an emphasis in Speech qualify.

Although the dates of the scholarship applications vary, they are typically due during dead week of each semester. That is, if you want money for the Spring semester, the application is due during dead week of the Fall semester. If you have any questions, you should email or call me. Announcements are made in class and fliers are on the bulletin boards in the Communication Department.

To be considered for a scholarship students should meet the following criteria:
  • Be a declared major in Speech Communication, Organizational Communication, or Education major with teaching emphasis in Speech.
  • Carry at least 12 credit hours.
  • Have a minimum 2.00 GPA and be free from all probations.
  • Have 58 or more earned credits. Preference is given to seniors, then juniors, then sophomores.
  • Have some financial need.

To be considered for a scholarship submit a typed letter that reflects effective communication skills and addresses the above criteria. Remember, your letter is a rhetorical document--demonstrate the committee that you meet the criteria for a scholarship and convince the committee that you are a worthy candidate. In addition, list courses taken in the department, departmental GPA, and a planned program of departmental courses. Include your address, phone number, and social security number. Please put the letters in Nancy J. Legge's mailbox in the main office in Frazier Hall Workroom [Room 222] by 4:00 p.m.

Award recipients will be notified by mail in late May. If you have any questions contact:
