Purpose
- to provide students with hands-on experience working in a program related to women’s issues
- to enable students to apply textbook theories, methodologies, and models to the real world
- to provide sponsors with a valuable asset to the organization
Project Requirements
- Hour Requirements:
- Internship Site
- 40 hours per credit per semester
- 1 credit=40 hours per semester=2.5 hours per week for 16 weeks
- 2 credits=80 hours per semester=5.0 hours per week for 16 weeks
- 3 credits=120 hours per semester=7.5 hours per week for 16 weeks
- 4 credits=160 hours per semester=10.0 hours per week for 16 weeks
- 5 credits=200 hours per semester=12.5 hours per week for 16 weeks
- 6 credits =240 hours per semester=15.0 hours per week for 16 weeks
- Internship Proposal
- 1-2 page proposal which includes the following information
- internship site and supervisors name
- description of learning objectives and goals,
- description of intern’s roles and responsibilities
- description of academic element selected
- description of supervision and assistance intern will receive from internship sponsor
- Due Date
- Second Friday of semester
- Failure to turn in the internship proposal on time will result in dis-enrollment from the internship.
- Hours Log
- Weekly hours worked onsite will be recorded on the official log sheet contained in the internship packet.
- Due date:
- Wednesday of Final’s Week
- Failure to complete and turn in the hours log will result in a 5% grade cut.
- Academic Element
- Interns are required to complete an academic project, as described in the internship proposal.
- Options include, but are not limited to:
- weekly journal
- 1 page per week, may be handwritten
- 5 page final paper summarizing and analyzing the internship experience
- 5 page project report
- portfolio of materials, reports produced for internship
- Due Date:
- Monday of Finals’ Week
- Evaluation
- Supervisor Evaluation
- Due Wednesday of Final’s Week
- Professor/intern consultations
- The intern is required to consult with the Women’s Studies Program Director a minimum of three times during the semester to discuss the status of the internship. This includes a group meeting with all interns near the beginning of the semester.
- Failure to schedule and keep 3 consultations will result in a 10% grade cut.
