Purpose

  1. to provide students with hands-on experience working in a program related to women’s issues
  2. to enable students to apply textbook theories, methodologies, and models to the real world
  3. to provide sponsors with a valuable asset to the organization

Project Requirements

  1. Hour Requirements:
    1. Internship Site
    1. 40 hours per credit per semester
      1. 1 credit=40 hours per semester=2.5 hours per week for 16 weeks
      2. 2 credits=80 hours per semester=5.0 hours per week for 16 weeks
      3. 3 credits=120 hours per semester=7.5 hours per week for 16 weeks
      4. 4 credits=160 hours per semester=10.0 hours per week for 16 weeks
      5. 5 credits=200 hours per semester=12.5 hours per week for 16 weeks
      6. 6 credits =240 hours per semester=15.0 hours per week for 16 weeks
  2. Internship Proposal
    1. 1-2 page proposal which includes the following information
      1. internship site and supervisor’s name
      2. description of learning objectives and goals,
      3. description of intern’s roles and responsibilities
      4. description of academic element selected
      5. description of supervision and assistance intern will receive from internship sponsor
    2. Due Date
      1. Second Friday of semester
      2. Failure to turn in the internship proposal on time will result in dis-enrollment from the internship.
  3. Hours Log
    1. Weekly hours worked onsite will be recorded on the official log sheet contained in the internship packet.
    2. Due date:
      1. Wednesday of Final’s Week
    3. Failure to complete and turn in the hours log will result in a 5% grade cut.
  4. Academic Element
    1. Interns are required to complete an academic project, as described in the internship proposal.
    2. Options include, but are not limited to:
      1. weekly journal
        1. 1 page per week, may be handwritten
      2. 5 page final paper summarizing and analyzing the internship experience
      3. 5 page project report
      4. portfolio of materials, reports produced for internship
    3. Due Date:
      1. Monday of Finals’ Week
  5. Evaluation
    1. Supervisor Evaluation
      1. Due Wednesday of Final’s Week
  6. Professor/intern consultations
    1. The intern is required to consult with the Women’s Studies Program Director a minimum of three times during the semester to discuss the status of the internship. This includes a group meeting with all interns near the beginning of the semester.
    2. Failure to schedule and keep 3 consultations will result in a 10% grade cut.
