Continuing Education
The Idaho State University College of Pharmacy supports a continuing education (CE) program that is dedicated to the continual enhancement of postgraduate skills and knowledge. As one of only two Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited providers in Idaho, our ultimate aim is to provide a variety of courses that offer high quality, unbiased, and up-to-date educational experiences for pharmacists and other health care professionals. Currently the College offers CE programs in two formats; live presentations, and home correspondence.
Idaho Drug Utilization Review
The Idaho State University College of Pharmacy holds the contract to provide drug utilization review services to the State’s Medicaid Department. The services are composed of College faculty, residents and staff and they report to the Idaho Drug Utilization Review Board which is composed of practitioners and Medicaid officials. The purpose of the Drug Utilization Review (DUR) program is to improve patient care and reduce overall drug costs in the state of Idaho. It accomplishes these tasks through the following means:
- Retrospective analysis of patient drug usage, physician prescribing, and pharmacy dispensing activities
- Identification and review of critical patient profiles
- Regular reporting of activities and important findings to Medicaid providers and pharmacies
- Preparation and distribution of educational leaflets to Idaho physician and pharmacists
- Awareness campaigns for new pharmaceutical products and techniques
- Research studies into drug-related trends and the application of those studies into cost-savings plans
Idaho Drug Information Service
The ISU College of Pharmacy is pleased to host the Idaho Drug Information Service (IDIS), which is able to answer any drug related question. The goals at IDIS include the following:
- To answer patient-related drug information questions for health care professionals throughout the State of Idaho. Responses can be tailored to specific patient characteristics.
- To teach drug information to students in the ISU College of Pharmacy.
- To provide relevant information and articles to the faculty and students in the College of Pharmacy.

Telehealth Idaho
Telehealth Idaho is a research and service project that seeks to increase access to physical, oral, and mental/ behavioral health care and to develop a telehealth resource center. Telehealth Idaho attempts to 1) increase the number of providers through new and upgraded education, 2) extend the reach of existing providers through telehealth-based consultation, supervision, case conferencing and home health, and 3) preserve the existing workforce through professional support thereby increasing professional quality of life and retention.
Idaho Conference on Health Care
The Idaho Conference on Health Care is an annual event offering speeches and presentations by a variety of health care experts on a variety of topics associated with a central health care theme. All health conference events are free to ISU students, faculty and staff. The conference keynote addresses are free and open to the public, but registration fees are required for the public for most conference events, including plenary speeches. Continuing education units are available to professionals desiring them.
Idaho Health Sciences Library
The Idaho Health Sciences Library (IHSL) is a unit of the Eli M. Oboler Library. It was formed in 1992 in response to the Idaho State Board of Education’s designation of ISU as the State’s lead institution for education in the health professions. The mission of the IHSL is “to advance education, research, and patient care by providing publication-based information to the university community and Idaho health care providers.” In addition to the services it provides to the university community, the IHSL provides database searches, document delivery, interlibrary loan, and journal issue table of contents delivery to three local hospitals, as well as to Idaho unaffiliated health care professionals, on a cost recovery basis.

Mental Health and Counseling Professional Development Workshops
Workshops covering mental health and counseling issues for counselors, psychologists, social workers, nurses, teachers, and other mental healh professionals are offered by the Department of Counseling annually in Pocatello, Boise and Coeur d’Alene.
Presentations are by a variety of experts on a variety of mental health topics. Generally, the workshops are held April through October.
Each workshop has a minimal registration fee and advanced registration is required.
Participants receive a certificate of contact hours attended at the completion of each workshop. One university graduate credit is available for two-day workshops for an additional $50 fee. The graduate credit is for professional development and/or licensure purposes only, the credit does not count towards a degree.
