Color Palette

Consistency in graphic identity can also be achieved when using the combination of color and font palettes. This alternative to the templates offers more flexibility in design, while maintaining a uniform appearance. It is recommended for campus units with a trained graphic designer on staff or those utilizing the services of University Relations, Graphic Arts or an outside design company.

The official colors of Idaho State University are orange (Pantone 150) and black. A palette of accent colors, which complement the orange and black, have been developed to maintain consistent publication design. The colors may be used in any combination, but it is best to start with the university’s main color and add no more than two complimentary colors to avoid a cluttered appearance. It is recommended to avoid color combinations that reflect other regional universities such as orange-blue and gold-black.

Some colleges have found it helpful to create a series of 2-color brochures, with a different color representing each department. In this context, it is acceptable to forgo the use of orange and choose one of the complementary colors as the main color.

The colors within the ISU Logo, Wordmark and Seal must never be altered. Authorized colors for these identity marks are listed on pages 5, 7 and 9.
