Grading Quick Guide

You can continue to change your grades in BengalWeb up until the deadline set by the Registrar’s Office.  Students can view midterm grades on BengalWeb immediately after you enter them. Students will not be able to view final grades until the Registrar's Office performs end of term processing after faculty grading has closed.  They access their grade information through BengalWeb.

Please note the timeout listed at the top and bottom of the grade page, and submit the grades you have entered frequently, especially if you are interrupted. Grades not submitted will be lost when the system times out after 30 minutes and will need to be re-entered.

Only faculty can enter grades for the courses they teach.  All grades are entered through BengalWeb using your personal login and password.  Sharing your password information with someone else so they can enter your grades is in direct violation of university policy.

Midterm Grading

  1. Logon to BengalWeb (bengalweb.isu.edu)
  2. Go to Faculty Grade Assignment channel in the Academics tab.
  3. At the bottom of the channel, click on the arrow and choose Midterm Grades, then click Go.
  4. Click on the icon next to the class you wish to grade. (Note: if you have more than 4 courses, the More link will show all your classes.)

  5. Make sure the new page says Mid Term Grades at the top.
  6. In the Grade column for each student, choose the grade you wish to assign. ISU policy requests only unsatisfactory grades for graduates & undergraduates be submitted at mid-terms. New: Banner allows faculty to submit other grades, if faculty choose to do so.

  7. When you are done, click Submit.  A checkmark box appears on the Mid Term Grades page, as well as in the Faculty Grade Assignment channel.

Final Grades

  1. Logon to BengalWeb (bengalweb.isu.edu)
  2. Go to the Faculty Grade Assignment channel in the Academics tab.
  3. At the bottom of the channel, click on the drop down box and highlight Final Grades, then click Go.
  4. Click on the icon next to the class you wish to grade.
  5. (Note: if you have more than 4 courses, the More link will show all your classes.)
  6. Check that the right page opens—it should say Final Grades at the top.
  7. In the Grade column for each student, choose the grade you wish to assign.
  8. When you are done, click Submit.  A checkmark box appears on this page as well as in the Faculty Grade Assignment channel.  Note: you can change any grades until the deadline announced by the Registrar’s office.

  9. NEW:

    X Grades
This new grade option is for students who have never attended class or stopped attending class.  If you choose X, enter the date the student stopped attending or the beginning of the semester if the student never attended.  Submit as with other grades. Faculty cannot enter an X grade for S/U courses.

In previous semesters, a less than satisfactory grade at mid-term would have resulted in instructors being sent a request for more information from the Financial Aid office regarding if and when the student stopped attending classes.  This information is required by the Financial Aid Office as they report back to the Federal Government.  Entering an X grade for non-attending students and supplying the Last Attend Date now saves the university the time and money needed to follow up with you individually.

    Incomplete Grades (final grades only)
If you assign a student an Incomplete (I) grade, the Incomplete Final Grades page opens.  Enter the grade the student will receive if he or she does not complete the work they contracted with you to complete and the deadline for submitting that work (under the Extension Date heading).   Incompletes are available for final grades only, and only according to the terms of the ISU Incomplete Policy.
