Dr. Lauralee Zimmerly - Associate Lecturer
Dr. Lauralee Zimmerly is a Dance Educator who uses teaching and research as a natural extension of her love of choreographing and performing. The National Dance Association (NDA) awarded her as the 2011 University Dance Educator of the Year. Zimmerly is currently an Associate Lecturer in the department of Theatre and Dance at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. She was the Artistic Co-Director of I~Move, The ISU Modern Dance Company from 2004-2009 and has choreographed for productions in the Theatre and Music departments, and for Dance ISU. Zimmerly also has the pleasure of working with DANSON, the ISU Student Dance Company.
Zimmerly was formerly a Visiting Lecturer and assistant costumer in the Drama and Dance Department at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, and an artist-in-residence for the San Joaquin County school district. She has been a member ofNew Dance Company in Stockton from its inception, was a founding member ofContemporary Dance Alliance in Albuquerque, NM and a performer for Sor MariaProductions in Santa Fe. In Pocatello, Idaho, she has participated as a performer andchoreographer for Kinetikos Dance Alliance, STB Dance, Co-Exhibit, Brindusa-MooreBallet, and EXTEND Dance, as well as working independently as a choreographer,teacher, and performer.
She received a M.A. degree in dance choreography and performance from UCLA andrecently completed her doctoral degree in educational leadership with an emphasisin instructional technology at Idaho State University. Her research interests center on the use of instructional technologies and creative movement activities to enhance critical thinking and learning. She has presented her research and workshops at conferences both nationally and internationally. She teaches Modern Dance, Dance Basics, Pilates, Methods of Dance for Children, Dance Curriculum Design, Survey of Dance, Dance in the Modern Era, Dance Composition, Aesthetic Issues in Dance, First Year Seminar, and coursework in the Honors program.
