Credits
- Q: What options are available for students to receive credit through
the Tech Prep Program?
A: When enrolled in a high school Tech Prep class, students will
receive high school credit if they successfully complete the class. In order
to receive college credits, there are three options:
- Students may articulate college credits up to two years after
completing the course, if they have earned a B- or higher in a qualified
class.
- Some high school Tech Prep classes are available for college credit (dual enrollment) allowing students to simultaneously earn ISU credits
and high school credit for the class.
- Q: How do students articulate college credits for a high school class?
A: When an approved class is completed the student can send ISU
a completed Application for Articulated Credit along
with a copy of his/her high school transcript. ISU personnel will evaluate
the transcript and send the student a list of qualified classes and credits.
Applications for Articulated Credit are available here or from your high
school counselor or by calling the ISU Student Services office at (208) 282-2622 or Tech
Prep office at (208) 282-5410.
- Q: What are the costs for articulating credits at ISU?
A: There is no cost for articulating credits if the student requests
them after enrolling at ISU as a full or part-time student. These credits
will appear on the transcript after the student’s first semester
at ISU. If a student wishes to record their credits to transfer to another college or university, there is a $15 per credit processing fee.
- Q: How does a student earn college credit while still in High School?
A: The Tech Prep allows students to simultaneously
receive high school credit and college credit for some college level technical classes
they are enrolled in through their high schools.
- Q: What is the cost of Tech Prep classes offered for college credit at ISU?
A: Tech Prep classes are available for $15 per ISU credit. (Academic
classes range from $65 - $157/college credit.) Not all Tech Prep classes
are currently available for dual enrollment.
- Q: If a student signs up for Tech Prep College
classes,
and pays $15/credit, are there any other fees to transcript the ISU credits?
A: No.
- Q: When a high school student articulates, or enrolls (for college credit), what grade will appear on their ISU transcripts?
A: Articulating: students will receive a "satisfactory" grade
in approved classes after they have completed their first semester at ISU.
College Courses: the grade the student earns in the class
is recorded on an ISU transcript.
- Q: How many college credits will my student receive?
A: The number of credits will depend on which classes a student
takes and the grades received.
