Tech Prep
What is Tech Prep?
- Tech Prep is a national and state effort which emphasizes collaboration between high school and Idaho technical colleges while preparing students for entry into the workforce
- Tech Prep allows students to earn college credit at a significantly reduced cost while they are still in high school
- In a Tech Prep program, high school and college instructors work together to design a seamless education system, allowing Tech Prep students to move from high school to college without having to repeat courses
- Tech Prep prepares students for high-growth and high-demand careers, with the skills necessary to meet the needs of industry
Benefits of Tech Prep
- Provides an opportunity to earn college credits at a reduced rate while in high school
- Eliminates duplication of courses
- Allows high school students to get a jump start on their college education
- Increases skill development and exposes students to high-growth, rewarding career opportunities
- Up to 8 transcripted Tech Prep credits can be used toward academic elective requirements at Idaho State University
Enrolling in Tech Prep
- Idaho high school students who are enrolled in approved professional-technical (vocational) classes are able to participate in Tech Prep
- There is no cost for enrollment in Tech Prep. If a student wants to receive college credit after completing the approved class, there is a $15 per credit transcription fee
- Students can enroll in Tech Prep at any time in high school. Enrollment is available here
Receiving Credit
- Student must receive a B- (80%) or better in their class to be eligible for college credit
- If a student wants to receive college credit, they must transcript college credit by filling out an application along with a $15 per credit fee
- Students have up to two years after high school to receive college credit
