Bannock Humane Society

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Volunteers needed to assist in animal shot clinics every Thursday of the month.  Volunteers also needed to assist with their adoption days on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month.

Pocatello Animal Shelter

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Volunteers needed to attend to the shelters basic needs.  An orientation class and dog training class is required before working with animals.

After School Adventures

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Volunteers needed to read, play with, help with homework, and assist with the care of after school children grades K-5.

NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  As many as possible

DATE: Monday thru Friday

TIME:  2pm to 6pm           

TIME COMMITMENT:  Students may volunteer as little as an hour, or as much as everyday.  This volunteer opportunity is very flexible and is based on how much time the student can volunteer.

Bannock County Juvenile Justice Program

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Volunteers needed to tutor students in preparing to take their GED tests.

DATE: Monday-Thursday every week

TIME: 9am-11am           

TIME COMMITMENT:  Volunteers are asked to commit to at least once a week over an extended period of time.

Bannock Youth Foundation

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Volunteers needed to work on a suicide hotline.  Cell phones will be issued, and students will be on an “on-call” basis.  Clerical work is also needed.  Shelter work with the juveniles implementing a steady daily routine is also needed.

Pocatello Neighborhood Housing Association
 (PNHS)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  Various projects depending on the need of the agency.  Projects may include: surveying homes, office work, landscaping, etc.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Event:  On September 25, 2007 PNHS will have their annual dinner. This is an opportunity for the organization to give back to the community with a potato dinner & door prizes. PNHS is in need of volunteers to help set up, clean-up, decorate & help with the silent auction. No experience needed.

Newsletter; PNHS is seeking a volunteer to help out with putting together a one page newsletter. No experience needed, prefer computer skills.

Field Work; PNHS is in the middle of wrapping up a rehab campaign. They have helped hundreds of Pocatello families with their home improvement needs. One of the ways they get the word out is by disseminating door hangers on door knobs in their targeted neighborhoods. No experience needed. Outreach Coordinator will accompany volunteers.

War on Weeds Campaign, PNHS has partnered with Valley Pride and others to combat Pocatello’s war on weeds. They are seeking volunteers to help spruce up areas in the targeted neighborhoods by pulling weeds. No experience is needed or equipment. Gloves, garbage bags, water & weed tools are provided.

 

 

Southeast Idaho
Council of Governments (SEICOG)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Volunteers would be needed to do clerical work such as data entry with the Iris program.  Other opportunities would be telephone reassurance, where volunteers call the elderly to see how they are doing.

NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Any

DATE: Weekdays and weekends.

TIME: Mornings through early evenings. (When the volunteer could be available.)

TIME COMMITMENT: Consistency would be helpful.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Volunteers are needed to work at Big Game Check Stations.  During the seasons of fall and winter volunteers are also needed for a fencing project being constructed the Portneuf and Blackfoot River around Lave Hot Springs. Monitoring radio collars for deer and elk is also an option for volunteers

(Family Advocacy program)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  Volunteers needed to staff a 24-hour Crisis line and outreach service with police for abused and battered women.  A 24 hour training session is required and a 6 month commitment to serve is also required.  

One day projects include: fix-up work, washing, yard-work, and shelter clean ups, Easter egg hunts, holiday support, etc.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Volunteers needed to run the Courtesy Cart- Circulate through the waiting rooms and distribute water, juice and possibly snacks to patients, straighten waiting areas, report on the conditions of the rooms, rotate magazines in-between waiting rooms, plan Activity Projects, etc.   Volunteers are also needed for The Annual Festival of Trees in November and December.
