International Students & Health Insurance
Idaho State University policy requires that all international students have health insurance while in the United States. Healthcare in the United States is complicated and very expensive; one illness can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and financially devastate you and your family.
Idaho State University provides coverage for your health care needs by offering one of the best and most comprehensive Student Health Insurance Plans. ISU Health Insurance program, is designed to provide international students and their eligible dependents continuous insurance protection and access to quality, affordable health care services.
Advantages of the Plan:
- Coverage continues as long as the student or scholar meets criteria for eligibility.
- Affordable coverage rates for spouse and dependents.
- Medical evacuation, repatriation coverage and travel assistance services are provided by Worldwide Assistance Services, Incorporated. This is worldwide coverage for medical evacuation in case of serious illness or injury and repatriation of remains in the event of death.

- $50,000/injury or sickness per policy year.
- Deductible of $250/student/academic year,$500/family/academic
year.
- 80% of costs for reasonable and customary care paid for in network physicians , 60% for out of network physicians*. Please note that these are percentages of reasonable and customary cost, which means the average amount charged by most providers for treatment, service or supplies in the geographic area where the treatment, service or supply is provided.
- Costs of pregnancy and childbirth covered (unless pregnancy began before enrollment). Routine newborn infant care and related Doctors charges are excluded.
- Both inpatient and outpatient coverage (for example: hospital room and board, physician's fees, laboratory test, x-rays, ambulance, etc.) Note: $100 co-payment for medical emergency expenses.
- Some limited coverage for mental health problems.
- Medical evacuation and repatriation coverage.
- Deductible of $250/student/academic year,$500/family/academic
year.
Waivers:
International students who provide proof of continuous enrollment in
an
alternative health insurance plan with comparable benefits
are able to waive out of their SHIP coverage each academic year.
Before waiving the ASISU Student Health Insurance
plan, please review your health insurance company to ensure that you
have adequate coverage.
medical benefits of at least $50,000.00 US per accident or illness
(to include maternity coverage for policy holder);
a deductible not to exceed $500.00 US per accident or illness;
co-payment for in-network providers not greater than 25 percent with
the insurance paying at least 75 percent of the charges;
repatriation of remains in the amount of $7,500.00 US (a type of
insurance whereby the deceased is returned to their home country);
medical evacuation coverage of at least $10,000.00 US (that pays for
the student to return to their home country if the student is too ill
to attend school);
insurance company that is owned, operated and based in the United
States or complies with 22 C.F.R.
§62.14 (c)(1-2);
and
health insurance in force and maintained for the full academic year

*Covered persons can maximize the benefits offered under this
plan
by obtaining treatment from a preferred provider. The local Preferred
Provider Organization for Idaho State University is SIPHO. A complete
list of Network Providers is available at the Student Health Center, or
by calling SIPHO AT (208) 238-1401. Outside the SIPHO network area the
Preferred Provider Organization is firsthealth network. A list of
