Student Health Center Staff

Ronald Solbrig, MD is the director of the Student Health Center and brings a wealth of medical knowledge seasoned with gentle humor. He is an Idaho Falls native who graduated from the University of Washington Medical School in 1987 and completed his Family Medicine residency training at the University of Wyoming. He is an associate professor of Family Medicine at the ISU Family Medicine Residency where he has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards. His experience includes emergency room practice at Portneuf Medical Center as well as hospitalist work in Idaho and Utah. Ron’s personal interests include vocal music, hiking, mountain biking, and racquetball.
Jean Bokelmann, MD is our resident flower child. She obtained her Medical Degree from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. She is board certified in Family Medicine with a certification of advanced qualification in Geriatrics. In addition to her practice at the Student Health Center, she practices obstetrics through the ISU Family Medicine Residency Program, where she is associate professor of Family Medicine. She also serves as medical consultant to the women’s services at the Southeastern Idaho District Health Department. Jean enjoys growing medicinal herbs, building straw bale houses, and throwing pots—but not at people.
Tony Joseph, MD brings some unique procedures such as trigger point injections and acupuncture to the therapeutic table at Student Health. He graduated from St. Louis University in 1987 and went on to train in Family Medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona. He also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Tony is an ISU athletic team physician and medical advisor to the Pebble Creek Ski Program. He is an avid mountain biker, skier, and enjoys the outdoors.
Nancy Alston, MD is a dedicated advocate for her student patients. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Utah. She practiced internal medicine in San Jose, California for 17 years prior to coming to Idaho. Nancy also has a practice with ISU Family Practice Residency Program. Her personal interests include her family, attending live theater, gardening, cooking, and traveling.
Mike Doyle, PA-C, our cowboy patriot with a big heart, is a physician assistant who graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at George Washington University in 1975. His subspecialty interests are Sports Medicine and Wilderness and Environment Medicine. Mike is a member of the Air Force Reserves, 419th Medical Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. His personal interests are horseback riding, backpacking, Scouting, and leather craft.
Supe Lyon, PA-C uses her international childhood to flavor her practice of medicine with a global perspective. She is a 2001 graduate from the Idaho State University Physician Assistant Program. Supe enjoys women’s health, sports medicine, and nutrition. She also enjoys mountain biking, running, traveling, and eating good food. Uniquely, Supe had the opportunity to grow up in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Argentina.
Ellie Taggart, PA-C exudes enthusiasm and a passion for medicine. She graduated from the Idaho State University Physician Assistant Program in 2006. She also graduated in 2004 with a Master’s degree in Public Health. Ellie’s medical interests include women’s health, public health, orthopedics and sports medicine, traveler’s health, and wilderness medicine. Ellie enjoys any activity outdoors, especially alpine and backcountry skiing, running, biking, yoga, and gardening.
Paulette Canfield, RN, with her boundless energy, provides nutrition counseling and education to ISU students and their spouses. She has been the charge nurse at the ISU Student Health Center for the past 15 years. Her interests include teaching yoga—she is a certified yoga instructor, gardening, hiking, skiing, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
