Effective Use of the "LEAD to Succeed" Resource Information Series
There are more than 20 resource handouts in the LEAD to Succeed series covering
organizational, leadership, and personal development. New topics are continually
being developed. Therefore, it is important that students - and especially student
leaders - learn to use the LEAD series effectively. This sheet gives you important
information about LEAD: what it is, why and when you should use it, where to
get it, and most importantly, how it can help you.
What is the LEAD to Succeed Resource Information Series?
LEAD stands for Leadership Education and Development. These short handouts summarize topics and ideas important to student leaders. The LEAD series was developed with student leaders and student organizations in mind. Time is important to students. If you do not have time to sit anf talk with the student Activities staff about your organizational needs, simply pick up these handouts and read them at your convenience. The Student Activities Staff is continually writing new LEAD to Succeed guides on various topics, and we welcome your help and input. If you or your organization has an idea for a LEAD to Succeed topic, please let us know!
Why use the LEAD to Succeed series?
The LEAD to Succeed series is helpful in developing your organization and your
own leadership potential. Individual LEAD to Succeed Series guides can help
your organization strengthen weaknesses, gather new and exciting ideas, and
become a more cohesive unit. As a leader, you can learn ways to become more
effective through skills in delegating, running a meeting, and facilitating
workshops.
When should I use the LEAD to Succeed series?
You or your organization should use the LEAD to Succeed series any time your
group is planning a program or retreat, recruiting new members, electing new
officers, or training officers and members in personal skill areas such as leadership,
planning, goal setting, time management and stress awareness.
Who should use the LEAD to Succeed series?
You should! Student leaders, student organizations, involved students, students
wanting to become involved, or individuals wanting to develop new skills should
all use the LEAD to Succeed series. The Students Activities Center itself uses
the LEAD to Succeed series frequently when planning various programs and activities.
Where is the LEAD to Succeed series located?
The LEAD to Succeed series is available in the Student Activities Center adjacent
to the 3rd floor of the Pond Student Union. Stop in and pick up as many as you
need or if you prefer you can call us at 236-4441 and we will mail them to you.
How do I use the LEAD to Succeed series?
Each LEAD to Succeed guide is self-explanatory, and several have checklists
and guidelines that outline a specific topic or process. One suggestion to effectively
use the LEAD to Succeed series in your organization is to have a committee within
your organization present a different LEAD to Succeed topic to the group as
a whole at each meeting.
As you begin to use the LEAD to Succeed series regularly, we are confident you
will find it useful, informative, and interesting. You and your group will acquire
new skills, strengthen existing skills, and have a great time doing it.
